We All Fall Down
Presented by Huntington Theatre Company
Calderwood Pavilion at Boston Center for the Arts
January 10–February 9

Linda and Saul Stein still live in the Westchester home where they raised their two beautiful daughters. But when Saul unexpectedly retires, Linda summons the family to celebrate Passover for the first time in decades. Linda tends slightly toward the theatrical (okay, a lot), and their family has never been particularly religious (okay, not at all). So their comic attempts to bring the seder to life go from riotous to heartwrenching in this play from Huntington Playwriting Fellow and Somerville resident Lila Rose Kaplan. Can this family come together, or will an age-old tradition tear them apart?

Marina, one of the last American climatologists, has hidden herself on the coast of Iceland to escape increasing threats from Eternal Sunshine, a shadowy cabal harassing climate scientists into silence. When Lucia, her one remaining peer, shows up unannounced, a cat-and-mouse game ensues. Are they allies? Enemies? Who works for whom? Drawing on climate science and real-world events, Last Catastrophist imagines life on the brink of extinction.

Bright Star
Presented by SpeakEasy Stage Company
Calderwood Pavilion at Boston Center for the Arts
May 1–May 30

Created by comedy legend Steve Martin and Grammy winner Edie Brickell, Bright Star is a sweeping tale of love and redemption set in the American South during the 1920s and 1940s. This richly emotional story weaves together two chapters in the life of literary editor Alice Murphy; the first, as a young backwoods girl in love with the son of a prominent family; and the second, as mentor to a young soldier just back from the war. Propelled by a rousing country and bluegrass score, and brimming with charm, Bright Star is a refreshingly original and daringly hopeful new entry in the musical theatre canon.

When an old colleague turns up with a shocking request, the three friends must come to terms with their shared culpability in this searing drama about responsibility and guilt, reparation and redemption.

FeministFuturist
Curated by Karen Meninno & Carolyn Wirth
Mills Gallery at Boston Center for the Arts
February 8–April 5

The past several years have seen a resurgence, reappraisal and reaffirmation of feminism. At the same time, we are now living the hurricane impact predicted by Alvin and Heidi Toffler in Future Shock (1970): accelerating cultural thrust creates an unfamiliar world into which we are launched like astronauts into an unknown dimension. Women artists are now uniquely poised to be cultural powerbrokers whose viewpoints on the future of society and the planet shape the world stage itself, instead of merely filling seats in the audience.

FeministFuturist seeks to add to the cultural conversation about the future from a feminist point of view, inserting female-centered narratives into future worlds. The exhibition includes work that speculates on future earth communities and the potential lives of beings of all kinds, while offering visions of coexistence, healing, and community.

Artists: Freedom Baird, Amy Borezo, Nadine Boughton, Linda Leslie Brown, Marisa Chentakul, Julia Daviy, Magda Fernandez, KSpace (Karen Meninno and Carolyn Wirth), Brenna Leaver, AK Liesenfeld, Linda Price-Sneddon and Genevieve Quick
